As inventors, we naturally get excited about building things.
After all, that’s the fun part.
Sketching ideas, making prototypes, and watching an invention come to life is incredibly rewarding.
But before you spend money on materials, ask yourself one important question:
“Would someone actually buy this?”
It sounds simple, but it’s amazing how many inventors skip this step.
Just because something can be built doesn’t mean there is a market for it.
I’ve met inventors who spent years developing products without ever talking to a potential customer.
Then came the hard realization—people weren’t interested.
On the other hand, I’ve seen inventors spend just a few weeks talking to customers and completely change their design. Those conversations often turned a good idea into a great product.
Your customers are your best teachers.
Listen to them early.
Listen to them often.
It could save you thousands of dollars and countless hours.
Question for you:
What’s the first question you ask before starting a new invention?
