Your Invention Doesn’t Need Every Bell and Whistle

It’s easy to keep adding features.

A button here.

An adjustment there.

A digital display.

Bluetooth.

An app.

Pretty soon your simple invention has become complicated.

Ask yourself:

Do customers actually want all of that?

Or do they simply want the problem solved?

Every feature costs money.

Every feature increases manufacturing complexity.

Every feature creates another opportunity for something to break.

Simple products often become the most successful.

From the master is my favorite engineering/inventing quote of all time…

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”- Leonardo Da Vinci

Don’t add features just because you can.

Add them because customers genuinely need them.

Question for you:

What’s a product you’ve used that was made too complicated?
